Let me tell you, there is nothing fun about having no heating on one of the coldest nights of the year. And we’re not talking about just freezing temperatures either. Where we live, cold means single digits and below on some nights. That’s the sort of cold that can be dangerous. So you definitely want to be able to count on the heating method in your house. But those heating methods can’t take care of themselves. Had I simply been a bit more on top of my game, I would not have had to put my family through what happened when the gas furnace quit. Like I said, it was a brutally cold night and it was barely even past midnight when the gas furnace quit working. The temperature in the house plunged almost immediately. I did my best to try to get the gas furnace to restart but it wasn’t going to do anything. I’m not stupid enough to try to work on HVAC equipment so there was no other choice but to call for an emergency HVAC repair. The HVAC technician was able to get there within the hour but even by then, it was super cold in the house. The HVAC professional was able to fix the problem after about an hour’s worth of work. Thankfully, he had a replacement part to get the gas furnace up and running that night. But all I had to do was to schedule heating maintenance earlier in the fall to have avoided the whole scene. I joined the HVAC service plan the next day so there won’t be any more missed HVAC maintenance appointments.
