Moving from the north to the south was a large transition.
I was accustomed to winter time temperatures in the drawbacks, snow for months at a time & relying heavily on the heater, however sweaters, snow shovels & ice scrapers were necessities. I drove a four-wheel-drive car & never dared buy tickets for an event stressed anytime between June & April. I was happy to relocate to an area with plenty of sunshine, palm trees & moderate temperatures. I no longer worry about snow removal or blizzard conditions. My current apartment is not equipped with any type of heating capacity. My friend and I run the air conditioner just about year round. The cooling system effectively pulls heat out of the apartment to maintain the desired temperature. It helps with humidity but can’t handle the abundance of moisture, lowering the thermostat setting just creates a larger workload for the air conditioner separate from solving the cause of the problem. It was necessary to install a dehumidifier. I’d tried portable dehumidifiers & found that the devices required constant emptying of the reservoirs separate from making much of an impact. The whole-apartment dehumidifier pulls moisture out of the air as it passes through the cooling system. By lowering humidity to a comfortable level, it’s possible to set a higher thermostat setting, lessen demands on the air conditioner & improve comfort. The dehumidifier operates round-the-clock & virtually silently. It requires only annual service. Because of this update, my buddy and I have far fewer issues with condensation running down the windows, mold & mildew growth. The apartment feels & smells fresher. My family sleeps better at night & has more energy during the day.
