Today is Mother’s Day, did you call your momma? Well, by the time you read this it will be too late for that, so hopefully you called momma, hopefully you have a momma still. My mom is still alive and hopefully will be for many years to come because she is the last one I really have left in my family from the old days. I had three grandparents as of about 15 years ago but then in a six month window thereafter they were all gone. I can still see my gramps cooking chicken in the air conditioned kitchen of their little lake house while I sat in the dining room drooling and waiting for it. His secret to really good fried chicken was to fry it hot, 375F, to lock in the juice and make it really crispy and brown on the outside. He was an HVAC rep and worked a lot, but he still had time to cook us some really good meals when he got home from work. We grew up living with our grandparents because my mom and dad separated and had zero money to support us at only 20 years old. My dad ended up creating an HVAC company empire and worked in the heating and cooling field right up to the end when he died at 73 years old. He bought 25 houses with all of that money and it goes to us when my stepmom is gone, but she will probably outlive me so I may not see a dime but I really could care less about it.
