When my husband and I first graduated from college, we struggled to pay off student loans.
Although we both found jobs in our respective fields, they were entry level positions and didn’t pay much.
Unwilling to throw our money away on rent, we invested into a very small house. There were some perks to such limited square footage. Making home improvements was inexpensive. Household maintenance and cleaning was completed very quickly. After several promotions and pay upgrades, my husband and I sold our little house for quite a bit more than we paid for it. We were able to purchase a far bigger property. Our current house is just over three thousand square feet. While we appreciate the giant kitchen, plenty of closet space, multiple bathrooms and the opportunity to have a dedicated home gym, the house is a lot more work. For the first six months after moving in, we attempted to handle everything ourselves. We were so overwhelmed that we couldn’t enjoy the house. We’ve now hired a lawn crew to handle mowing the grass, shrub trimming and leaf blowing. We also hired a professional cleaning company for the inside of the home. A crew of cleaners come once a week and go through the house from top to bottom. They dust, vacuum, mop and wipe down all surfaces. They do a great job scrubbing the bathrooms. They even take out the garbage, wipe down all of the kitchen appliances and straighten up. I’m always excited to arrive home from work on the days when the cleaning crew completes their services. I step inside and everything smells so fresh and clean.
