A friend and I were talking the other day and one thing to led to another, which ended up with the topic of conversation being time travel.
Or, more specifically, they asked me if I would rather travel to the past or the future if given the chance to, and why. My answer, without hesitation, was the future. Before I could explain myself they started to go on about how if I went to the past instead I could meet so many historic people or witness history-changing events firsthand. However, I still stand by my answer of the future. I explained it to them in very simple terms: I wouldn’t want to go to a time without heating or air conditioning. It may seem like a very silly reason, but I’m sticking with it. HVAC equipment has changed lives. I would much rather see the future, where comfortable temperature control is very likely assured, instead of the past where it may not be depending on the time period. Air conditioners and furnaces were absolutely brilliant inventions and the technology within them keeps advancing to allow us to control the temperature within our environment to meet our own preferences. I live in a particularly cold region and I know living here during a time without this innovative technology wouldn’t have been very pleasant. Actually, I doubt I would want to visit the past and lose any technology that enhances our level of comfort. I like things as they are. The convenience of technology will always win out for me over witnessing history.
