My wife and I just moved into a new home last year.
For the most part we have not had any problems with our new home.
However, a couple of days ago I noticed a weird burning smell. At first I thought my wife by be attempting to cook something. She really tries hard and I have to give her credit, but she really is a bad cook. After further investigation, I realized the smell was coming from the basement. We don’t use our basement for anything and in the past year I think I have only gone down their one time. So, it was time for me to venture down into the basement. Right when I opened the basement door I knew something was wrong. It smelled like something was one fire, I ran down and noticed that our furnace was on. It was the middle of the summer and I don’t know why the furnace would have been on, I surely didn’t turn it on. So, I asked my wife if she turned on the furnace and she said she couldn’t remember. I started to get frustrated with her because, she could have burned our house down by turning on the furnace and forgetting about it. I immediately turned off the furnace and called our local HVAC company to come out and make sure there wasn’t any permanent damage to our heating system. Thankfully, the HVAC company didn’t see anything alarming. This is a good lesson to always make sure you know what is going on in your home!
