I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t think we were going to purchase it
Last month, my husband and I thought it would be a good idea to prepare for the summer heat. We knew we were going to need a new air conditioning unit, and we wanted to find one that was highly efficient. We had read all about SEER and knew the numbers represented how energy efficient an air conditioning unit was. Two years ago, the highest energy efficiency rating we could afford was a SEER of 17. This year, we wanted to see if we could afford an AC unit with an efficiency rating of over 20. The naïve part of me was thinking air conditioning units may have dropped in price, but I was mistaken. Just like everything else, the price went up. We were going to pay almost $1000 more for the air conditioning unit, than we would have if we bought it last year. My husband warned me, but I didn’t want to hear it. Once the HVAC technician showed up, he pulled out pamphlets that gave us an idea on the price of a new air conditioning unit. I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t think we were going to purchase it. I asked the HVAC technician if our old AC unit would last another year? He said it would probably last two or three years, but the prices probably would not go down. They may stabilize, but that isn’t a given. My husband asked me what I thought? I told him that since the prices have been steadily getting higher, we may as well get the high efficiency air conditioning now, before the prices were much higher, and he agreed.
