I was on my second serving of dinner when one of my professors, who also happens to be my uncle, sat beside me at the dining table. My mother had told me to call the heating dealer more than five days before, but I had completely forgotten about it. I remember calling the heating business when my uncle started talking about how he always ensures that his whole home heating system receives annual heater maintenance. The discussion on new heating equipment began when my mother reminded his brother about the house they both lived in together when they started working. The house had an electric heater for heating, but the summers could have been more pleasant because the a/c was constantly breaking down, and they only had one portable fan. My uncle finally moved out to his studio apartment, and he was working as a heating technician by then. Only after his skills as a heating dealer had improved was he able to fix my mother’s a/c. I was surprised that he was once an HVAC professional because I have always known him to be in the teaching profession. My mother suddenly turned to me and asked if I had called the heating company since the guest room was freezing, especially at night during the cold season. I thought the tech was only coming to service the smart thermostat and fireplace, and now we had guests. It never occurred to me that the heat pump installation was the problem. My mother gave me a murderous look, but my uncle calmed her down and said he would have the heat pump running in no time, he may no longer work for the heating industry, but he always had his tools with him. He also taught me more about heating so that I could take care of simple a/c care.
