Now I have all of these memories from 1500 or so shows, performing in front of audiences in many countries, and I won’t regret not quitting that job when I am old and retired
I work seven days a week writing these stories. I only work about three hours a day though so my workweek isn’t that bad, and driving to the office in rush hour traffic is a thing of the past. I used to have really stressful engineering jobs but left the field when I was 32 years old in search of a different life. That search has led me all over the world and got me to experience the performing arts for the past nearly 20 years, something I couldn’t have done with that heavy of a workweek. Fixing ductwork pales in comparison to the pay an engineer makes, but working from home part time is way better for me than working 60 hours a week for a local contractor company as an engineer. I never would have been able to do standup comedy in clubs late at night like I did if I had to be in the office at 7am every day like I was doing in the corporate world. I’d still be there now building HVAC systems and counting the days till retirement, something my other coworkers are still doing some 25 years later. Now I have all of these memories from 1500 or so shows, performing in front of audiences in many countries, and I won’t regret not quitting that job when I am old and retired. If I was building heating and cooling equipment fulltime again I wouldn’t have had the chance to really live life and experience things like I have. So I am pleased I took the chance.
