I will disclose that I am a bit silly about custom furniture now, then it wasn’t something that was on my radar until recently.
I needed a bedroom table for a smaller family room and could not find anything of quality; Apparently when you want a smaller table you are choosing something cheap, tacky, and made of pressboard, then that didn’t fly with me.
So I then found a custom furniture builder and asked about pricing. I figured having someone build me oak furniture by hand would cost a lot. It does, but not as much as you think. Consider all the larger department stores that offer furniture and what they charge, and having someone make you a furniture piece out of solid wood isn’t that much more extravagant. I loved that I got to decide everything; For me the size of the piece was pivotal. I needed it to fit on one small wall in the family room and be a rectangle. It is only slightly larger on two sides though, so basically a square, my identifiable dimensions, request for oak, and height requirements made it so custom buying was the only choice. I now have my finished piece in the bedroom and just care about it. I am greedy for more custom pieces. The table makes everything in the home look cheap. I want to upgrade my bedroom cottageets, television stand, ottoman, and end tables. I feel everything should match and be done through the same business. Oak furniture looks great, holds up well, and is constantly classy.
